About

I approach landscape painting as design.

While my work is inspired by the natural world and the great landscape painters of the past, my goal is not to simply reproduce what I see. Instead, I strive to create the strongest possible image through composition, light, color, contrast, and detail. Every element within a painting is carefully considered, adjusted, and refined to serve the overall visual impact of the work.

Inspired by masters such as Albert Bierstadt, I am drawn to landscapes that evoke a sense of awe. Dramatic mountain ranges, luminous skies, quiet Italian villages, and sweeping western vistas all provide a starting point, but the final painting is often shaped as much by imagination as by reference. Mountains may be moved, light intensified, and colors enriched if it strengthens the composition and creates a more compelling experience for the viewer.

Color plays a central role in my work. I am fascinated by the ability of vibrant color to transform a scene, bringing energy, atmosphere, and life to a painting. Combined with strong value structure and careful attention to detail, it allows me to create landscapes that feel both believable and elevated beyond reality.

As a self-taught artist based in Norway, I have spent more than a decade studying the principles that make paintings endure. Throughout that time, I have remained focused on improving my understanding of composition, draftsmanship, and visual storytelling. While my work has been exhibited locally and commissioned by private collectors, much of my audience has been built online, where I have shared my artistic journey with thousands of followers around the world.

Alongside my oil paintings, I also create charcoal drawings of figures and animals. Working without color allows me to focus entirely on value, form, and expression. The simplicity of charcoal provides a creative freedom that complements my approach to painting and reinforces the importance of strong underlying design.

At its core, my work is driven by a simple goal: to create images that people want to keep looking at. The pursuit of the perfect balance between composition, contrast, color, and detail is what continues to inspire me, challenge me, and bring me back to the easel year after year.
